Oyo govt clarifies allegation of sale of Ogbomoso farm settlement
The Oyo State Government has refuted claims regarding the potential sale of the Ogbomoso AFarm Settlement.
Agriculture Commissioner Olasunkanmi Olaleye, in a statement released Friday in Ibadan, clarified that the development of sections within the farm settlement is part of a strategic initiative aimed at integrating agriculture, housing, and economic development.
Olaleye emphasized that this initiative aligns with the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde, which focuses on agricultural transformation, food security, job creation, and sustainable economic growth. He stated, “The proposed New Town to be established at the farm settlement will feature a housing scheme that combines modern farming techniques, residential areas, and agro-allied industries within a structured environment.”
The commissioner noted that the project is designed to enhance agricultural production, generate employment opportunities, strengthen value chains, attract investments, and bolster food security across the state.
He pointed out that urban expansion has encroached upon the settlement, leaving some occupants without proper documentation and some original allottees deceased. Olaleye indicated that the government’s intervention aims to reorganize, regulate, and optimize land use in the public interest.
Further underscoring the administration’s commitment to agriculture, Olaleye mentioned ongoing initiatives such as subsidized tractor services, agricultural mechanization, provision of improved seeds and fertilizers, and training programs for farmers and agricultural extension officers focused on climate-smart methodologies.
He added that these efforts would enhance agricultural extension services, promote agribusiness, and improve rural access and infrastructure through the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project.
“The Makinde administration is not undermining agriculture; rather, it is strategically repositioning the sector as a vital driver of food security, employment, and economic growth,” he said.
Olaleye reiterated the importance of ensuring that land is utilized in a productive and sustainable manner, with agriculture remaining central to development objectives. He urged residents of Ogbomoso to disregard any misinformation and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to prioritizing agriculture in its developmental agenda.
