NIS intercepts 17 irregular migrants, arrests two with N34m ransom in Adamawa
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has apprehended 17 irregular migrants in Adamawa State, as part of ongoing efforts to combat illegal immigration. In a separate incident, authorities arrested two men suspected of kidnapping and seized N34 million in cash, which they reportedly claimed was intended as ransom.
According to reports from DAILY POST on Wednesday, the arrests of suspects Alhaji Jaye, 55, and Buba Bello, 34, occurred on Sunday, September 6, 2026. During initial questioning, both men admitted that the money found in their possession was meant for the release of a kidnapped individual.
In a statement released by the NIS Adamawa State Command, Comptroller Sule Jega indicated that the 17 undocumented migrants were intercepted at a private residence in Rumde Baru, located in the Yola South Local Government Area. Among them were 13 individuals from Cameroon—eight males and five females, along with four male nationals from Chad.
The NIS noted a troubling trend, suggesting that undocumented migrants are increasingly opting for private residences over hotels for accommodation. This change in lodging patterns raises concerns about the evolving strategies employed by those seeking to evade immigration authorities.
