Nigerian Army Arrests Suspected Kidnapper, Recovers Firearm in Edo State
Ikpoba-Okha, Edo State – Troops from the 4 Brigade Nigerian Army, conducting operations under Operation WABAIZIGAN, apprehended a suspected kidnapper and recovered an AK-47 rifle during an operation along the Benin–Sapele Road on September 12, 2026.
The suspect, identified as Olamide Oyeniyi, was arrested in the Obaretin Community while the troops aimed to disrupt criminal activities and enhance security on key transportation routes.
In addition to the firearm, the military reported that officers recovered a magazine containing eight rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition, a Tecno mobile phone, two bags, a torchlight, a music box, and various charms.
Oyeniyi, along with the recovered items, was taken into custody for further investigation. Authorities hope to determine any connections he may have to other criminal networks and assess his potential involvement in recent kidnapping incidents in the region.
The Nigerian Army affirmed its commitment to ongoing operations in collaboration with other security agencies to combat crime and ensure the safety of communities and major transportation corridors throughout Edo State.
