Bauchi Police Arrest 53-Year-Old Man in Connection with Multiple Crimes
Bauchi State Police have arrested a 53-year-old man, Gambo Hassan, also known as “Anahaka,” for alleged involvement in a series of serious offenses, including kidnapping, rape, armed robbery, and unlawful possession of a weapon. The arrest occurred on September 11, 2026, at approximately 8:45 p.m. during a routine patrol by operatives of the ‘B’ Division in GRA along Adamu Jumba Road.
Hassan, a resident of Igbo Quarters in Bauchi, reportedly disguised himself as a commercial motorcyclist to prey on unsuspecting passengers, especially women, during the evening hours. Police apprehended him while he was riding a Bajaj motorcycle with the registration number BAU 150G. At the time of his arrest, he was wearing a black face mask and fez cap, and a sharp knife was allegedly found in his possession.
During interrogation, Hassan reportedly confessed to his involvement in the crimes and identified 15 women as initial victims of his alleged activities. This number later increased to 35, according to police reports.
Following up on the investigation, detectives obtained and executed a search warrant at Hassan’s residence, where they recovered various items believed to be proceeds of crime. These included 15 mobile phones, three power banks, six wristwatches, several native caps, women’s wrappers, hijabs, and cash totaling ₦425,435, along with Kenyan and Turkish currency notes.
Hassan, along with the recovered items, has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and prosecution.
Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu praised the detectives for their vigilance and professionalism, assuring the public that the police are committed to intensifying efforts against criminal activity.
Police spokesperson SP Nafiu Habib has also encouraged anyone who may have been victimized by Hassan to come forward with information that could assist the ongoing investigation.
