NDLEA intercepts drugs worth N2bn, secures convictions of 248 suspects in Delta
NDLEA Seizes Over 2.4 Tonnes of Illicit Drugs in Delta State
The Delta State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) reported the seizure of 2.446497 tonnes of illegal drugs, valued at approximately N2 billion, between July 2025 and September 2026.
Commander Halilu Hamidu made the announcement during a press briefing on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, detailing the command’s accomplishments during the specified period. He noted that 248 individuals were convicted on drug-related charges, while an additional 223 cases remain pending in the courts.
Hamidu outlined the composition of the seized drugs, which included 1.387751 tonnes of Cannabis sativa, 81.023 kilograms of cannabis seeds, and smaller quantities of substances such as cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamine. Specifically, the seizures comprised:
- 0.1511 kilogramme of cocaine
- 0.0317 kilogramme of heroin
- 0.8906 kilogramme of methamphetamine
- 2.303 kilogrammes of Molly
- 666.295 kilogrammes of tramadol
- 16.113 kilogrammes of Swinol/Rohypnol
- 52.940 kilogrammes of diazepam/bromazepam
- 5,190.8 kilogrammes of Exol-5
- 0.7395 kilogramme of Cocodamol
- 47.560 kilograms of nitrous oxide
In addition to solid drugs, the NDLEA seized 1,304.630 litres of liquid drug exhibits during the period. These included 819.327 litres of codeine and smaller amounts of tramadol and diazepam injections.
One of the agency’s significant operations occurred at a warehouse in Oko Market, Asaba, where illicit substances with an estimated street value exceeding N150 million were recovered. Furthermore, the command intercepted three trucks loaded with codeine and other psychotropic substances, valued at N150 million and N100 million, respectively. Two commercial buses were also captured along the Onitsha-Asaba Expressway, containing over N300 million worth of various illicit drugs.
Hamidu reported that the agency destroyed 35.2 hectares of Cannabis sativa farmland throughout the state. He also highlighted that during the review period, the command provided counseling to 693 drug-dependent individuals, comprised of 463 males and 230 females.
The NDLEA remains committed to preventing drug traffickers from using Delta State for the storage, cultivation, and distribution of illicit drugs.
