Taraba govt intensifies school monitoring, warns teachers against absenteeism, insubordination
The Taraba State government has stepped up its oversight of secondary schools, urging teachers and administrators to adhere to protocols regarding attendance, punctuality, lesson preparation, and respect for authority.
On Tuesday, teams from the Ministry of Secondary, Technical and Vocational Education, under the leadership of Commissioner Dr. Augustina Godwin, Permanent Secretary Alhaji Idris A. Goje, and Secretary Mrs. Rabi Sunday, conducted a monitoring exercise aimed at evaluating these standards.
The exercise focused on assessing teacher attendance, lesson delivery, students’ academic activities, and adherence to government directives following the resumption of classes.
In response to preliminary findings, Commissioner Godwin expressed concern over practices that could hinder effective teaching and learning in the state. “Teachers are entrusted with the responsibility of shaping the future of Taraba’s children,” she said, emphasizing the need for professionalism and commitment in their roles.
Godwin reiterated that educators are expected to fulfill their duties with adequate preparation and to respect the authority of school administration.
Permanent Secretary Goje reinforced the ministry’s stance against indiscipline, absenteeism, and insubordination within the school’s system. “We have continually invested resources in education; such efforts must be supported by all stakeholders who must adhere to their responsibilities,” he stated.
Secretary Sunday urged school principals to lead effectively, ensuring compliance with established regulations among teachers. She highlighted the importance of a collaborative effort to enhance the administration and academic environment of schools.
Observations from the monitoring will be documented for follow-up actions as necessary. The commissioner noted that school assessments will be an ongoing initiative, as the ministry seeks to strengthen educational quality across Taraba.
Godwin called on teachers, principals, and all educational stakeholders to support the education reforms initiated by Governor Agbu Kefas, emphasizing a commitment to creating an accountable and responsible educational system. The monitoring teams included directors, deputy directors, and quality assurance officers from the ministry.
