Armed Robbery Targets Taraba State University Students in Jalingo
JALINGO, Nigeria — Suspected armed robbers attacked multiple residences housing students of Taraba State University early Monday morning, September 21, 2026. The incidents occurred between 1 a.m. and 3 a.m. in the ATC area of Jalingo, the capital of Taraba State.
The attackers reportedly moved from one residence to another, stealing items such as phones, laptops, power banks, and other valuables. A source within the university community, who wished to remain anonymous, indicated that numerous residences along the Alaba to Agric Gate axis were also targeted during the incident.
Among the affected locations were Dior Compound, Strawers Villa, Mumbai Compound, and 3 Brothers Villa. Witnesses stated that the assailants gained entry by breaking doors and windows. Some students reportedly fled into nearby bushes for safety due to the number of individuals involved in the raid.
While no injuries have been confirmed at this time, affected students have reported significant material losses and psychological distress following the incident. They expressed their concerns to the media, urging the university management, local community leaders, and the Taraba State Police Command to enhance security measures and increase night patrols around student residences.
As of now, there has been no official comment from either the police or university officials regarding the attacks. The situation follows a recent robbery at the hostels of the School of Nursing and Midwifery in Jalingo, raising alarm within the student community about their safety.
