Police hunt male guest over death of woman in Calabar hotel
The Cross River State Police Command has initiated a search for a male hotel guest who vanished after checking into a hotel in Calabar South with a woman who was later found dead.
The woman, whose identity has not yet been confirmed, was discovered deceased at the hotel located along Clifford Lane. Authorities have classified the case as a suspected homicide.
The police released an update on Wednesday regarding the investigation, which began when the incident was reported on September 8, 2026. Initial inquiries revealed that the deceased had been staying at the hotel with an unidentified man, whose current whereabouts are unknown.
Investigators are actively working to locate the man and determine the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death. The police have also shared a photograph of the deceased in an effort to identify her and reach her family or acquaintances.
Authorities are urging anyone who may recognize the woman or have information regarding her identity, or the whereabouts of the male guest, to come forward.
Additionally, the hotel receptionist who was on duty at the time of the guests’ check-in is currently in police custody, aiding in the investigation. Officials stated that he is being questioned about the guests’ admission and the events leading to the discovery of the woman’s body. However, they emphasized that the receptionist’s detention does not imply guilt, and any subsequent actions will depend on the evidence gathered.
Cross River State Commissioner of Police Ajo Geoffrey Ordue has instructed that the investigation be conducted with professionalism and impartiality.
