Woman Arrested in Connection with Death Found on Kubwa Expressway
ABUJA — The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested Rukayat Muhammed in connection with the death of a man whose body was found along the Kubwa Expressway.
FCT Commissioner of Police Mohammed Sanusi announced the arrest during a press conference on Saturday. He stated that Muhammed and the deceased had checked into the Good Samaritan Guest House located on 2nd Avenue in Gwarimpa prior to his death.
Sanusi reported that after discovering the man unresponsive, Muhammed allegedly did not notify authorities and instead left the hotel with his mobile phone.
The deceased’s body was discovered on August 26, 2026, by a passerby near the Katampe underpass on the Kubwa Expressway, raising concerns regarding the circumstances surrounding his death. The man’s family had previously reported him missing.
“Upon discovery of the body, our investigators began looking into its connection with the earlier missing person report,” Sanusi said. “We were able to confirm that the deceased was indeed the same individual reported missing by his family.”
The Commissioner noted that investigators found the deceased’s phone was missing and initiated a tracking process. Although the phone had been turned off, they identified Rukayat as the last person in communication with the deceased.
Further investigation revealed that Muhammed, a married woman from Garki Area 2, was allegedly involved in a romantic relationship with the deceased, using the contact name “Safiyat” on her phone.
Sanusi indicated that the couple spent time together at the guest house. “The suspect reported to us that she found the deceased unresponsive. However, instead of contacting the police immediately, she left the hotel with his mobile phone,” he said.
Hours later, after the hotel management attempted and failed to reach the couple in the room, they discovered the deceased’s body. In an effort to conceal the incident, two members of the hotel staff, Ibrahim Omeiza and Kefat Bitrus, reportedly transported the body and left it by the roadside on Kubwa Expressway.
Sanusi remarked that their actions appeared intended to distance the hotel management from the incident.
The investigation into the case remains ongoing as police seek to clarify the full circumstances surrounding the man’s death. “Anyone found to have contributed to the death or subsequent concealment of the body will be held accountable under the law,” the Commissioner stated.
