Rainbow Coalition doesn’t exist in Ebonyi – Umahi
Ebonyi State Minister of Works David Umahi has dismissed the notion of a Rainbow Coalition in the state, reiterating the All Progressives Congress (APC) commitment ahead of the 2027 elections.
The Rainbow Coalition, established by Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, aims to rally support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election while allowing politicians to maintain their party affiliations.
During a site visit to the Calabar-Abuja Superhighway project in Ado, Benue State, on September 25, Umahi emphasized that political activities in Ebonyi must not incite unrest. “Nobody can foment crisis in Ebonyi State,” he stated firmly.
In a statement issued on Saturday by his media aide Francis Nwaze, Umahi claimed he had yet to receive any information about Wike’s candidates in the state and reaffirmed that these individuals would not disrupt the existing political alignment. “There is no rainbow coalition in Ebonyi State,” he declared.
His comments come in light of ongoing tensions between Wike and several APC governors regarding political strategies for the upcoming elections. While Umahi acknowledged the right of any politician to campaign in Ebonyi, he urged against inflammatory language. “We will not lay a red carpet for hate speeches,” he warned.
Umahi also reflected on his departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the party’s failure to honor the interests of the South-East region after local members supported its presidential candidates. “We supported PDP. We voted for presidents in PDP. And when it was our time for them to honor us, they did not honor us. They maltreated us,” he said.
