Nigerian campaign worker arrested by ICE after guilty plea in US

A Nigerian national who served as a canvasser for a Democratic congressional campaign in Pennsylvania has been arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) following a guilty plea related to a disorderly conduct charge.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) identified the individual as Chimaobim Adedayo Igbojekwe in a statement released on October 7, 2026. According to DHS, Igbojekwe was arrested in East Pennsboro Township on September 27 due to allegations of indecent exposure and disorderly conduct, eventually pleading guilty to the latter charge.
ICE arrested Igbojekwe on October 1, shortly after his conviction, according to the department’s statement.
At the time of the incident, Igbojekwe was a canvasser for Janelle Stelson, the Democratic nominee for Pennsylvania’s 10th congressional district. Local media reports indicated that he was discovered in a residential area near a park, exposed, with children present in the vicinity.
In response to the situation, ICE Deputy Director Charles Wall expressed disapproval regarding Stelson’s decision to include Igbojekwe on her campaign team. “It’s unbelievable that Janelle Stelson would employ an illegal alien to work on a congressional campaign, let alone a pervert who exposed himself in public,” Wall stated. He emphasized the ongoing efforts of DHS personnel to identify and remove individuals deemed a threat to community safety.
The DHS noted that Igbojekwe was admitted to the United States legally in June 2017 but had overstayed his authorized residency, which expired in November 2019. He received deferred action under the administration of former President Joe Biden in September 2021.
Further details regarding the status of Igbojekwe’s immigration proceedings were not disclosed by the department.
