ABUJA — Vice President Kashim Shettima has dismissed former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi’s assertion that he won the 2023 presidential election, labeling it a “delusion of grandeur.” During remarks made at the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council on Wednesday, Shettima directly challenged Obi’s credibility and accused him of using flawed statistics and unrealistic economic recommendations.

“I respect Peter Obi, but he has gone beyond his mastery of philosophy to make bogus claims about winning the 2023 presidential election without producing evidence to support his assertion. This is called delusion of grandeur,” Shettima stated.

Shettima further criticized Obi’s economic strategies, suggesting they are overly reliant on comparisons with foreign economies and do not take into account Nigeria’s distinct circumstances.

“Then comes my very good friend, Mr. Peter Obi, the master of bogus statistics and incoherent economic prescriptions who seems convinced that his size 36 shirt for Bangladesh will somehow fit Nigeria’s size 52,” he remarked.

He emphasized that effective governance requires a deep understanding of the local context, insisting that “a country of over 200 million people cannot be governed through borrowed statistics and economic prescriptions detached from its peculiarities.”

The inauguration of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, held at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, marks the official launch of the party’s expanded campaign framework as it gears up for the general election in 2027.
