Masussuka: Katsina on alert ahead burial, no autopsy conducted on slain cleric

KATSINA, Nigeria — Security has been heightened across Katsina metropolis as mourners gather to pay their last respects to Islamic scholar Sheikh Yahaya Ibrahim Masussuka before his burial.

Authorities confirmed that an autopsy was not performed on the cleric’s remains. In an effort to maintain order during the funeral, police officers have been deployed to key locations throughout the city. At the Emir of Katsina’s palace, at least four police patrol vehicles and several military vehicles were observed securing the area.

Armed security personnel have also been strategically positioned throughout the metropolis. In the meantime, residents, fellow scholars, and supporters have begun arriving at the Emir’s palace to honor the deceased cleric.

This increased security presence follows the recent killing of Sheikh Masussuka by gunmen in the Dutsin-Ma Local Government Area. The cleric was widely respected for his Islamic teachings and his advocacy for peaceful coexistence in the community. His murder has drawn widespread condemnation from religious leaders, local residents, and the Katsina State Government.

Governor Dikko Umaru Radda has denounced the attack and assured the public that security agencies will thoroughly investigate the incident and bring those responsible to justice.

As preparations for the burial continue, security personnel remain on high alert across the city to ensure that the ceremony proceeds without incident. Security analyst and former JTF commander Dr. Isma’il Tanko Wudilawa remarked that the killing highlighted deficiencies in community policing, noting that it appeared the cleric had been monitored prior to the attack.

Wudilawa emphasized the importance of community vigilance, urging residents to familiarize themselves with their neighbors and to be cautious about sharing personal routines with outsiders.
