‘Some women are destined to marry at 40 or 50’ – Lola Idije

Actress Lola addressed the challenges faced by single mothers during her recent appearance on the Africanlist Podcast. She emphasized the heavy responsibilities many women bear when raising children alone, noting that not all women have the support of a partner.

“Not everybody will have a husband to help them raise their children. So women have to carry their burden alone. Not all of them choose that life,” Lola stated. She highlighted that some women find themselves in the role of single mothers due to circumstances beyond their control, asserting that a lack of a partner does not equate to irresponsibility.

Additionally, Lola questioned societal pressures on young women to marry, expressing concern about the implications of such expectations. “But if you start pressuring them at 20, how can you be sure that they won’t marry the wrong person?” she asked, reflecting on the uncertainty surrounding early marriage decisions.

In discussing motherhood, Lola remarked, “When women start giving birth, they become softer,” illustrating her perspective on the transformative nature of motherhood.
