‘High school abroad can be treacherous’ — Morayo Brown warns parents after killing of Ghanaian teen
Television host Morayo Brown has advised parents to consider their children’s emotional maturity before sending them abroad for high school. Her warning follows the tragic death of a 15-year-old Ghanaian boy in the United States, who reportedly lost his life after being bullied.
In a recent statement, Brown reflected on her own experiences with bullying at the age of 15 while attending high school in the U.S. She described how peers targeted her due to her African heritage, recalling incidents of students placing dirty items in her locker and physically pushing her during sports activities.
Brown noted that she chose not to report the bullying at the time, feeling pressured to fit in as a newcomer and often feeling unwelcome among her classmates. She mentioned that the harassment intensified as she approached prom season.
Brown emphasized the importance of parents ensuring their children are emotionally prepared and properly guided before pursuing secondary education abroad. “University abroad is fine, but high school can be treacherous,” she said.
