Benue Govt to demolish illegal structures for Makurdi Road dualisation project

Benue State Government to Remove Illegal Structures for Road Dualisation Project

Makurdi, Benue State — The Benue State Government has announced its intentions to remove illegal structures along the road from Savannah Roundabout to Government House in Makurdi as part of a significant road dualisation initiative.

Officials explained that this decision follows the approval of the dualisation project under the administration of Governor Hyacinth Alia. The project aims to enhance traffic flow and modernize the city’s infrastructure.

In addressing concerns about a specific structure in District 4, reportedly owned by federal lawmaker Hon. Dickson Tarkighir, authorities clarified that the building has been designated for demolition since 2024 due to violations of building regulations. The government noted that the property owner was advised to remove the structure more than two years ago but has yet to comply.

Officials also cautioned against the dissemination of misinformation on social media, emphasizing that the demolition efforts are part of a lawful initiative to clear encroachments, not aimed at any particular individual.

The state government reiterated its commitment to good governance and urban development, urging residents to cooperate with the demolition process to ensure the successful completion of the road dualisation project.
