Rivers State Police Implement Movement Restrictions Ahead of Bye-Elections

The Rivers State Police Command has announced a restriction of movement in anticipation of the bye-elections for the Ahoada East and Khana State Constituencies, scheduled for Saturday, February 21.

The restriction will be in effect from noon to 6 p.m. on election day and will apply to areas within and around the Ahoada East and Khana Local Government Areas. According to the police, this measure aims to promote a peaceful and credible electoral process.

To ensure order during the elections, a significant deployment of security personnel will be present across both local government areas. Officers will be stationed at strategic locations, including polling units and major roads, to deter violence, electoral misconduct, and other potentially disruptive activities.

Residents are advised to adhere strictly to the movement restrictions, avoid unnecessary gatherings near polling units, and refrain from carrying weapons or suspicious items. The police encourage the public to report any unusual activities.

The Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and reminded the public that violations of the restriction order could lead to arrest and prosecution. He also urged political parties, candidates, and their supporters to respect electoral laws and avoid any form of violence.

In addition, parents and guardians are encouraged to warn their children against engaging in any disruptive behavior during the election.

The Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to providing a safe environment for voters to exercise their civic rights without fear or intimidation.
