EFCC nabs 20 over alleged vote trading in FCT polls, recovers N13.5m

Twenty Arrested for Alleged Electoral Offenses in FCT Elections

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 20 individuals in connection with alleged electoral offenses during the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections held on February 21, 2026. This action is part of a broader effort to combat vote trading and related violations.

According to a statement from the EFCC, the arrests occurred throughout the FCT and involved various offenses, including vote buying, vote selling, and obstructing electoral officers. The commission reported that the total amount linked to these activities is approximately N17,218,700.

Notably, one suspect was found in possession of N13,500,000, discovered in a vehicle parked near a polling booth in the Kwali Local Government Area.

The arrests took place across several locations within the territory: two suspects were apprehended in Abaji, nine in Gwagwalada, four in Kuje, and another four in Kwali.

The EFCC emphasized that these operations are part of ongoing efforts to address electoral malpractice and ensure adherence to the law during local government elections. Investigations are currently underway, and once completed, the suspects will face prosecution.

“The suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations,” the EFCC stated.
