Police neutralise bandits in Kaduna, arrest gun runners

Kaduna State Police Report Significant Successes Against Banditry

KADUNA — The Kaduna State Police Command announced major operational achievements over the past two weeks, including the dismantling of bandit camps and the arrest of suspected gun runners.

At a press conference on Monday, Commissioner of Police Rabiu Muhammad detailed several successful operations conducted in the Kajuru, Tafa, Igabi, and Kauru Local Government Areas. These efforts, informed by intelligence-led strategies, led to the dislodgment of multiple bandit camps.

During these operations, law enforcement engaged in exchanges of fire that resulted in the neutralization of several suspects, while others reportedly fled with injuries. In addition, authorities apprehended individuals believed to be informants and suppliers linked to criminal networks.

Muhammad reported a substantial recovery of illegal firearms and drugs, including three AK-47 rifles, 21 fabricated firearms, one sub-machine gun, two English pistols, four additional fabricated pistols, and significant quantities of narcotics. Authorities also detained five individuals suspected of being key gun runners.

On February 20, officers from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit arrested a suspect in Jaji, Igabi Local Government Area, who was found with six fabricated AK-47 rifles, three fabricated revolvers, two fabricated pistols, seven AK-47 magazines, and tactical footwear. Another suspect from Unguwar Rogo, Jos North, was also taken into custody in connection with arm fabrication and supply operations.

Further operations on February 17 led to the apprehension of three suspects at Kasuwan Magani during an illegal arms transaction. Items recovered included a locally made AK-47 rifle and a fabricated pump-action gun.

Muhammad emphasized the command’s commitment to proactive and intelligence-driven policing as a means of disrupting the supply chains that support banditry and violent crime. He assured the public that the police would continue dismantling criminal networks throughout the state.

“We will strengthen community partnerships and enhance intelligence gathering while maintaining aggressive operations against all forms of criminality,” he stated.

He expressed gratitude to Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun for ongoing support and acknowledged the Kaduna State government’s logistical assistance. Muhammad also thanked the public for their cooperation in providing credible information that aids security efforts.

“Together, we shall ensure that Kaduna State remains secure for all law-abiding citizens,” he concluded.
