You have my full support, restore peace – Tinubu tasks acting IGP Disu

President Tinubu Appoints Olatunji Disu as Acting Inspector-General of Police
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday appointed Olatunji Disu as the Acting Inspector-General of Police, tasking him with the responsibility of enhancing security and restoring peace throughout Nigeria. This decision follows the resignation of former Inspector-General Kayode Egbetokun and is pending ratification by the Nigeria Police Council, which is scheduled to meet next week for confirmation.
Addressing Disu during his decoration ceremony, President Tinubu expressed confidence in his ability to succeed in this critical role. “I made this decision for you to assume this responsibility. I know your record and witnessed your dedication while you served in Lagos,” he stated.
The president emphasized the importance of rebuilding public trust in the police and collaborating effectively with other security agencies. “Lead firmly but fairly, demand professionalism at every level, and ensure that the safety of lives and property remains our highest priority,” he advised Disu, acknowledging the challenges ahead.
Tinubu further encouraged the new Acting IGP to advance the security pillars outlined in his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda. “Nigeria is challenged with banditry, terrorism, and other criminal activities. You will be part of the thinking and innovation to overcome them,” he noted.
During the ceremony, President Tinubu commended outgoing Inspector-General Egbetokun for his contributions to maintaining law and order. “We are a grateful nation. Nigeria appreciates your service,” he stated, urging Egbetokun to assist Disu as needed. “His success will also be part of your legacy,” Tinubu added.
The president called on all security stakeholders to collaborate effectively to protect citizens during this crucial time. The event also highlighted the presence of key figures, including National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, retired AIG Hakeem Odumosu, and other senior officials.
