Delta State Police Arrest Suspected Gun Manufacturer, Seize Firearms

Delta State Police have arrested a suspected illegal firearms manufacturer and recovered several locally made weapons and production equipment during a raid in Emuhu community, Ika South Local Government Area.

The operation occurred at approximately 5 a.m. on March 6, 2026, after police received credible intelligence about an alleged firearms fabrication site in the area. The raid was led by the police Raiders Squad under Commander Akanya Agbogha.

During the operation, officers apprehended a 59-year-old man identified as Friday Ojei. A search of the suspect’s premises uncovered four locally manufactured guns, as well as equipment believed to be used in their production. This equipment included a welding machine, drilling machine, grinding machine, and metal pipes.

Spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the arrest and stated that the suspect is currently in custody. Investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend others involved in the illegal firearms network.

In a separate incident, a joint patrol team from the Ovwian-Aladja Division, led by Divisional Police Officer CSP Ekundayo Friday, conducted a routine stop-and-search exercise along Film Hall Road. During this operation, the team approached a group of suspected criminals, who fled upon seeing the police.

In the ensuing pursuit, officers discovered a black bag abandoned by the fleeing suspects. A search of the bag revealed a locally fabricated short gun, which has been taken into custody as evidence. Police efforts to detain the suspects who escaped are ongoing.

Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and proactive security operations, praising the officers for their vigilance and professionalism during these recent operations.
