Nigerian Army neutralises three terrorists, recovers weapons in Sokoto

Nigerian Army Reports Success in Anti-Terror Operation in Sokoto State

SOKOTO, Nigeria — Troops from the Nigerian Army, deployed under the Joint Task Force North West as part of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, engaged in a successful operation in Kadam Forest, located in Tangaza Local Government Area. The effort resulted in the deaths of three terrorists and the recovery of several weapons.

The operation involved personnel from the Chief of Army Staff Special Intervention Battalion 7 and the 8 Division Strike Team. This information was disclosed in a statement by Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for the 8 Division and Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA.

According to the statement, the operation was initiated following credible intelligence reports indicating that more than 100 terrorists had assembled in Kadam Forest. These individuals were reportedly planning coordinated attacks and kidnappings targeting nearby communities. The intelligence also suggested that the group was in the process of relocating kidnapped victims to their hideouts.

The Army noted that upon receiving the intelligence, troops acted swiftly to intercept the suspected terrorists. The operation began around noon on the day in question, leading to significant confrontations with the militant group, which is associated with the Lakurawa terrorists.

A heavy exchange of gunfire ensued, during which the soldiers maintained tactical superiority. “When the terrorists attempted a rear-flanking maneuver, troops responded with superior firepower, effectively neutralizing the threat,” the statement explained.

Following the firefight, troops conducted additional searches within the forest, confirming the neutralization of three terrorists. Reports suggest that several others may have been injured during their escape. Recovered items included one PKT machine gun, two AK-47 rifles, 350 rounds of PKT ammunition, 111 rounds of 7.62 Special ammunition, three magazines, two radios, three motorcycles, and a mobile phone.

The Army stated that follow-on operations are ongoing to assess further enemy casualties and recover additional material. Morale among the troops remains high, with their fighting efficiency deemed strong and unwavering.

“Aggressive patrols and sustained offensive operations continue across the area to exploit this success, disrupt fleeing terrorist elements, and prevent any regrouping,” the statement concluded.
