ISWAP terrorists in disarray as military repels attack on Borno

ISWAP Fighters Retreat After Failed Assault on Military Base in Borno
BAMBA, Nigeria — Fighters from the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fled in disarray Friday following a thwarted attack on a military base in Banki, located in the Bama Local Government Area of Borno State. The operation was led by troops of Operation Hadin Kai, with support from the Nigerian Air Force (NAF).
Counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama reported the incident on social media platform X. According to Makama, intelligence sources indicated that the insurgents launched their assault in the early hours, moving in significant numbers to attempt an incursion into the military compound.
In response, Nigerian troops engaged the attackers in a vigorous gun battle, successfully defending the base against the assault. As the firefight continued, the Nigerian Air Force deployed an aircraft for aerial support.
One source noted that upon seeing the incoming aircraft, the insurgents abandoned their attack and fled into nearby bushes, overwhelmed by the combined ground and air pressure. The attempted assault was ultimately stalled, forcing the militants to withdraw.
As of now, there have been no reported casualties. Security forces have begun assessment and clearance operations in the area.
Banki, which lies near the Cameroon border, continues to be a critical frontline location in the ongoing counter-insurgency efforts in Borno State.
