Adamawa begins 2026 malaria prevention campaign

Adamawa State Launches Seasonal Campaign to Combat Malaria

YOLA, Nigeria — The Adamawa State Government has officially launched its 2026 seasonal campaign aimed at protecting residents from malaria. The initiative, which commenced on Thursday, includes the distribution of mosquito nets and administration of antimalarial medicines to children.

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri emphasized the campaign’s goal to reduce the prevalence of malaria across the state during the program’s opening ceremony. He was represented by Deputy Governor Professor Kaletapwa Farauta in Yola.

“This Integrated Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC) and Insecticide-Treated Net (ITN) campaign aims to alleviate the burden of malaria,” Fintiri stated.

The campaign is slated to distribute approximately 2.583 million insecticide-treated mosquito nets and provide 4.5 million doses of antimalarial medicine to children between the ages of three and 59 months.

Farauta described the initiative as a significant step in the state’s ongoing efforts to fight malaria, acknowledging the disease’s severe impact on families and communities. She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to effective intervention strategies.

“The success of malaria control efforts relies heavily on strong partnerships,” Farauta noted, commending organizations such as the Society for Family Health (SFH), Management Sciences for Health (MSH), and Catholic Relief Services (CRS) for their collaboration.

Benjamin Nashon, the Programme Manager of the State Malaria Elimination Programme, recognized the dedication of both the state government and its partners in the fight against malaria.
