ADC alleges forged INEC documents over ‘fake’ nomination upload

ABUJA — The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has alleged that a faction led by Nafiu Bala Gombe is using forged documents, falsely attributed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to claim unauthorized submissions of candidate nominations to INEC’s portal.
The ADC has called for an investigation into what it considers forgery and improper use of official documents, stating that such actions could confuse the public and undermine trust in the electoral body.
In a statement, ADC National Publicity Secretary Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi denied the allegations of document uploads, asserting that only leadership recognized by INEC has access to its nomination portal.
“We formally draw the Independent National Electoral Commission’s attention to what appears to be forgery and unauthorized use of documents that could compromise the Commission’s integrity as Nigeria’s electoral authority,” Abdullahi said, urging INEC to investigate and rectify the situation.
The party emphasized that INEC does not grant access to its nomination portal or issue nomination codes to unrecognized leadership. It explained that allowing unauthorized access would enable impostors to submit names and claim legitimacy.
“It is clear: where is the evidence of this purported upload by a group not recognized by law or the electoral body?” the ADC questioned in its statement.
The party described the allegations as an attempt to sow confusion among the public, asserting there is no dispute within its leadership. Abdullahi affirmed that the legitimate leadership has completed the nomination process according to the Electoral Act and INEC guidelines.
He noted that the names of their presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar (GCON), and vice-presidential candidate, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi (CON), have already been submitted to INEC.
“As we informed the public last week, the details of our candidates have been uploaded on the INEC portal. Those are the facts,” Abdullahi said.
Looking ahead to the 2027 general election, the ADC anticipates further attempts to divert its attention but remains committed to providing what it considers a credible alternative for Nigerians.
“As the election approaches, we expect repeat distractions and misleading information. Our focus is on presenting Nigerians with solutions to restore security, address the rising cost of living, revitalize the economy, create jobs, and guide the country toward progress in 2027,” Abdullahi stated.
The ADC urged its members, supporters, the media, and the public to disregard what it terms “agents of distraction” and to rely solely on official communications disseminated through authorized channels.
