Amotekun busts criminal network operating under lunacy cover in Ondo

Amotekun Corps Apprehends Disguised Criminals in Ondo State

Operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, known as the Amotekun Corps, have arrested individuals posing as mentally ill persons to commit crimes in various areas of the state.

The suspects are linked to activities including kidnapping, drug trafficking, and robbery. Amotekun commander Adetunji Adeleye reported that this new tactic was revealed through intelligence regarding the suspects’ methods.

Adeleye noted that the disguised individuals were among 98 suspected criminals apprehended during the corps’ anti-kidnapping operations. “Our intelligence and plainclothes officers monitored and tracked them to locations where they charged their phones, changed clothes, and coordinated operations before they were apprehended,” he said.

At a press briefing at the corps headquarters in Akure, the state capital, Adeleye detailed a successful operation in which Amotekun operatives rescued a kidnapped couple without the payment of ransom.

He described how the agency’s rapid response team swiftly entered the forest following a distress call. This led to the successful rescue of a female victim, and an overnight operation subsequently secured the release of her husband.
