Troops Rescue Kidnapped Victim in Abia State

UMUAHIA, Abia State — Troops from the Headquarters of 14 Brigade Operation Udo Ka, in collaboration with various security agencies, successfully executed an intelligence-led operation in Abia State on Thursday, resulting in the rescue of a kidnapped man.

The operation involved members of the 145 Battalion, along with personnel from Operation Crush and the Anti-Cultism Unit of the Nigeria Police Force, and took place in Umuahia. The rescued individual, identified as Mr. Onyebuchi Nwaoha, had been abducted by armed assailants.

Captain Mazinho Attah, Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 14 Brigade, confirmed the rescue and noted that it is part of the ongoing Eastern Sanity II initiative.

The rescued victim, along with several individuals taken into custody during the operation, is currently undergoing investigation. Efforts are ongoing to identify and dismantle further criminal networks in the region.

In addition, Captain Attah highlighted the sustained military presence in key areas, including major roadways and vulnerable communities such as the ABSU–Okigwe–Ihube Road and the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway. Troops are actively working in local government areas, including Umunneochi, Bende, Isiala Ngwa, Ukwa East, Ukwa West, Umuahia, and Arochukwu.

“The ongoing operations aim to disrupt the activities of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB)/Eastern Security Network (ESN) and other criminal groups, while preventing unlawful practices, including the unauthorized use of explosives,” Attah stated.

In a separate incident, troops stationed at Osisioma responded quickly to reports of gunfire near Brass Street in GRA, Aba, where they discovered the body of an unidentified man. The victim was found lying on the roadside after reportedly being attacked by assailants.

Emergency responders later evacuated the body, and investigations into the shooting are currently underway as authorities work to apprehend the perpetrators.

Captain Attah further reported that military personnel conducted coordinated night patrols and maintained a generally calm and secure environment in strategic locations during the observation period. Patrols extended to high-risk areas and surrounding communities, including Isiugu, Akanu-Ukwu, Ameakpo, Nguzu, Arochukwu, and Bende, with troops collaborating with other security agencies to uphold law and order.
