Bandit attacks spark protest in Sokoto as angry residents block major highway [VIDEO]

Protest in Bodinga Local Government Area Demands Government Action Amid Rising Bandit Attacks

Residents of Bodinga Local Government Area in Sokoto State staged a protest on Friday, blocking the Bodinga–Sokoto highway. The demonstrators called for immediate government intervention in response to a surge in bandit attacks affecting local communities.

The protest was sparked by reports of recent incidents that reportedly resulted in fatalities, the displacement of families, and numerous residents being reported missing. Journalist Bakatsine, who covers issues of conflict and security in Nigeria’s North-West, shared updates on the situation via social media platform X. He noted that protesters expressed frustration over the perceived failure of authorities to safeguard their communities from ongoing violence.

According to Bakatsine, many residents reported being forced to flee their homes, with some families now separated and actively searching for missing relatives. In a post, he wrote, “UPDATE: A protest is ongoing in Bodinga, where residents have blocked the major road in the LGA (Bodinga-Sokoto way) to demand urgent government intervention.”

The affected areas include Danchadi, Dabagi, Karaje, and Taƙule, where armed bandits have allegedly invaded homes. Local reports detail accounts from displaced individuals, including one woman who claimed her husband was killed during an attack.

In addition, residents from surrounding communities, such as Zango, Biri, Illela, Horo, and Danbaro, have reportedly abandoned their homes due to fears of further violence.

As of the time of this report, the Sokoto State Government and local security agencies had not released any official statements regarding the recent attacks or the ensuing protest.
