Ekiti: Oyebanji celebrates re-election victory, promises dividends for every household

Ekiti Governor Biodun Oyebanji Marks Re-election Victory as a Vote of Confidence

Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji hailed his re-election for a second term as a significant endorsement from the electorate, promising to further the state’s development.

Following the announcement of the election results by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Oyebanji expressed gratitude to Ekiti residents for their overwhelming support. He stated that the election outcome demonstrates a collective aspiration for continuity and stability.

“The voice of the people has reverberated from every part of our great state, and the message is clear,” he said.

Oyebanji noted the significance of securing victories across all 16 local government areas, achieving approximately 85 percent of the popular vote. “I am deeply humbled by the scale of this victory,” he added.

He reiterated his commitment to enhance governance and improve the lives of residents throughout the state. “This mandate means our work must touch every household even deeper. There are no winners or losers today; there is only one united Ekiti determined to continue its journey of upward mobility,” he said.

Prof. Adenike Oladiji, the Returning Officer for the election and Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, announced the results around 3:13 a.m. Sunday. Oyebanji received 319,224 votes, while his main opponent, Oluwole Oluyede of the Peoples Democratic Party, secured 40,543 votes. Dare Bejide of the African Democratic Congress received 12,872 votes.

A total of 384,940 voters were accredited, with 375,777 valid votes recorded and 6,332 ballots rejected, leading to a total of 382,109 votes cast.

The election was generally peaceful but not without challenges, as reports surfaced regarding technical difficulties and alleged irregularities in some areas.
