Two Killed in Road Accident Involving Tanker in Ibadan

IBADAN, Nigeria — Personnel from the Oyo State Fire Service recovered two bodies following a road accident involving a petroleum products tanker on Saturday. The incident occurred in the Sat Guru Maharaji area, along the Ibadan/Lagos Expressway.

Authorities reported that the tanker, which was registered with the number BDJ 27IXG, was loaded with 45,000 liters of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) when it swerved off the road and fell into a nearby ditch.

Emergency responders found two male occupants trapped inside the vehicle and confirmed that they did not survive the crash. The bodies were retrieved by the Oyo Fire Service and subsequently handed over to officials from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) for further investigation.

Maroof Akinwande, Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, stated that preliminary reports suggest the accident was caused by brake failure.

“Upon arrival, it was discovered that the tanker had swerved off the road and plunged into a ditch,” Akinwande said in a statement on Sunday. “The two male occupants were trapped in the accident and were later handed over to a team of FRSC officers led by Comr. S. Oyegoke for further necessary action.”
