Gunmen Attack Farm in Plateau State, Killing Three
MANGU, Plateau State — Three individuals, identified as Mr. Titus Brigade, Mrs. Rahab Titus Brigade, and Mrs. Laitu Pius, were killed on Monday afternoon when gunmen, suspected to be Fulani militia, attacked Tukur village in the Kinat area of the Mangu Halle district.
Markus Lonkat, a youth leader from the community, confirmed the incident in a statement to DAILY POST on Tuesday. He reported that the victims were working on their farm at the time of the attack. Lonkat stated, “Fulani bandits attacked and killed the victims on their farm. About five others sustained injuries during this incident.”
He described the attack as unprovoked and expressed concern over the ongoing violence, noting that the Fulani people have coexisted peacefully with the community for many years. Lonkat condemned the violence and urged security agencies, particularly Operation Enduring Peace, to take decisive action against such attacks.
In a related incident, Emmanuel Bala Mwolpun, Chairman of the Mangu Local Government Area, condemned a separate assault on the Gwomjang Community in Kadunu Ward, which occurred on Sunday, May 31, 2026. This attack reportedly resulted in the deaths of eight residents and injuries to approximately 15 others.
Sunday Ezekiel, a community youth leader, said the attackers struck around 7:30 p.m., firing indiscriminately before retreating into nearby bushes. He confirmed that four men and four women were among the deceased and that the injured are receiving treatment at a nearby clinic.
In a statement issued through his Director of Press and Publicity, Jeremiah Dakahap, Mwolpun labeled the attacks as barbaric and promised that those responsible would be held accountable. He also extended condolences to the victims’ families and called on residents to take proactive measures for their safety.
“We must not wait for the government alone to come to our rescue. Let us wake up and be our own security,” Mwolpun said. He encouraged residents to report any suspicious activity to the authorities promptly.
To facilitate medical care, he announced that injured victims would be transferred to the University of Jos Teaching Hospital, with the local government covering all associated medical expenses.
