Former Security Chief Claims to Hold CCTV Footage of Gen. Abacha’s Death
Kaduna, Nigeria — Maj. Hamza Al-Mustapha (retired), who served as Chief Security Officer to the late General Sani Abacha, claims to possess CCTV footage that documents the events surrounding Abacha’s death.
Speaking to journalists during the 3rd General Hassan Usman Katsina Memorial Conference at Arewa House on Saturday, Al-Mustapha refuted claims made by Dennis Amachree, a former operative of the Department of State Services (DSS). In his memoir, Amachree alleged that Abacha died of cardiac arrest while engaging in sexual intercourse.
Al-Mustapha dismissed Amachree’s account as “lies,” stating, “The boy was asked by others to write those lies. I have all the CCTV footage of what happened in my custody, so what he said is not true.”
This exchange has rekindled interest in the circumstances surrounding the late military leader’s passing on June 8, 1998.
