Kano Fire Service Conducts Two Rescues in Local Government Areas
KANO, Nigeria (May 29, 2026) — The Kano State Fire Service reported two successful rescue operations in Kumbotso and Warawa local government areas early Friday.
According to a statement from agency spokesperson Saminu Yusuf Abdullahi, the incidents occurred between 7:06 a.m. and 9:40 a.m.
The first rescue was initiated after Hafizu Garba Saminu notified authorities about an unidentified man, approximately 40 years old, who had fallen into a well near El-Sadeeq Bread in Kumbotso. Fire service personnel were promptly dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, they discovered the man unconscious, and he was subsequently rescued and transferred to the Panshekara Police Division. The Divisional Crime Officer, Salisu Salihu, will oversee further investigation.
In the second incident at Madarin Taba village in Warawa, a report from Buhari Saidu led officials to a 32-year-old woman, Maimuna Shitu, and her 18-month-old son, Harisu Muntari, who were also found in a well. According to the woman’s father, she is experiencing mental health challenges. Both victims were rescued unconscious and handed over to the ward head, Yusuf Surajo, and Maimuna’s father, Muhammad Shitu.
The Kano State Fire Service is conducting investigations into the circumstances surrounding both incidents. Director Alhaji Sani Anas urged residents to properly secure well openings to help prevent future accidents.
