Oyo State Governor Extends Curfew in Ten Local Government Areas
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has announced a 24-hour extension of the curfew affecting ten local government areas, according to a statement released by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Musibau Babatunde.
The statement, which was made public on Thursday evening by Dr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, noted that the curfew was initially imposed due to concerns surrounding the Old Oyo National Park.
Reports indicate that recent kidnappings involving students and teachers have heightened residents’ fears regarding safety in the vicinity of the park.
With this extension, the curfew, originally set for 48 hours, will now remain in effect until Saturday, June 27, 2026.
The local government areas affected by the curfew include Oriire, Orelope, Irepo, Saki West, Saki East, Atisbo, Itesiwaju, Iseyin, Olorunsogo, and Atiba.
