‘Makinde’s govt orchestrated Oyo abduction to blackmail Tinubu’ – Fayose alleges

Fayose Alleges Oyo Government Orchestrated School Abduction

Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has accused the Oyo State Government of orchestrating the recent abduction of schoolchildren and teachers as part of a scheme to embarrass President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Fayose made this assertion during a televised interview, where he questioned the Oyo government’s response to the kidnapping incident, which took place on Friday in several local government areas and garnered national attention. The incident prompted a swift reaction from the Federal Government.

In response to the abduction, President Tinubu dispatched a high-level delegation to the affected areas and assured community members that efforts were in place to secure the release of the victims.

Fayose criticized the state government for its handling of local security issues, emphasizing that state authorities should take primary responsibility before seeking federal assistance. “Before you reach the president in the hierarchy of leadership and governance, there is local government, there is the state; state has security votes and there are people who should be addressing these concerns,” he stated.

Fayose further alleged that Governor Seyi Makinde was slow to respond to the crisis, suggesting that political activities had taken precedence over urgent security measures. “In Oyo State, I sometimes believe this might have been orchestrated. The governor had his nominations and that of his candidates amid this abduction,” he remarked, criticizing the timing of the governor’s first visit to the families of the victims.

He speculated that the incident might have been manipulated to tarnish the Federal Government’s image. “I sometimes believe that the abduction at the Oyo school was orchestrated by the Oyo State Government to blackmail President Tinubu,” Fayose added.

As of the time of this report, neither Governor Makinde nor the Oyo State Government had issued a response to the allegations.

The abduction has sparked widespread reactions among political leaders and security analysts, leading to renewed calls for enhanced measures to address insecurity and safeguard schools throughout the nation.
