NDLEA arrests three physically challenged persons for drug trafficking
NDLEA Arrests Multiple Suspects in Drug Trafficking Operations Across Nigeria
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) announced the arrest of a 60-year-old man, Romanus Nwabara, in connection with drug trafficking. Nwabara was apprehended in Akpaka Forest, Onitsha, Anambra State, on Wednesday while in possession of 250 grams of skunk, packaged for retail sale.
Femi Babafemi, Director of Media and Advocacy at NDLEA Headquarters in Abuja, released details of the operation in a statement on Sunday. Babafemi also reported that on Thursday, agents detained Amos Kenneth, a 25-year-old person with a disability, in the Ogbunike area of Anambra. Kenneth had 160.3 grams of Tramadol (225 mg and 100 mg), 80 pills of Diazepam, 38.23 grams of Exol 5, and 176.93 grams of skunk in his possession.
In Kwara State, NDLEA operatives intercepted a commercial vehicle during a routine patrol along Bode Saadu on Friday, May 8. One passenger, Usman Salisu, was found carrying 6.3 kilograms of skunk concealed in a brown school bag.
Additionally, NDLEA’s Special Operations Unit conducted a raid on a mansion in Lekki, Lagos, on Friday, where they uncovered 4,000 parcels of Loud cannabis, weighing 2,326 kilograms and valued at over 5.8 billion Naira. The operation also resulted in the seizure of two Mercedes Benz buses and various designer packaging materials related to the illicit drug trade.
Further operations from May 4 to May 8 led to several other arrests. In Nyanya Karu, Nasarawa State, Emmanuel Osita Okeke, 38, was apprehended with 129 kilograms of skunk on May 4. On May 8, along the Okene/Lokoja highway in Kogi State, authorities seized 76 jumbo bags of skunk weighing 766 kilograms from a commuter bus, leading to the arrest of three suspects: Mathew Omohove, Ebuka Desmond, and Babangida Musa.
In a separate operation in Ijora Badia, Lagos, officers raided a makeshift skuchies production factory on May 6. Two suspects, Bose Jamiu and Gbenga Gege, were arrested while allegedly cooking cannabis mixed with other substances. Authorities recovered 270 liters of skuchies and 106 grams of Tramadol (225 mg) from the site.
Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, commended the efforts of officers in Anambra, Kwara, Kogi, Nasarawa, and Lagos states. He emphasized the importance of their continued work in reducing drug supply while also engaging in awareness campaigns.
