Nigerian Army adopts drone surveillance technology

Nigerian Army Commits to Enhancing Operational Effectiveness

The Nigerian Army has reiterated its dedication to improving operational effectiveness through the integration of technology, welfare reforms, and enhanced training following a strategic conference held in Abuja.

Lieutenant General Shaibu, Chief of Army Staff, made this commitment in a statement released via the Nigerian Army’s official X handle. He noted that the conference served as a critical platform for evaluating current operations and developing strategies to address the country’s evolving security challenges.

Discussions at the Nigerian Army Conference Centre in Asokoro centered on refining operational responses, enhancing training frameworks, and adapting to the demands of contemporary warfare. Shaibu emphasized that the resolutions reached are designed to cultivate a more agile, combat-ready, and technologically advanced force capable of effectively responding to emerging threats.

Among the significant reforms highlighted is an increased investment in modern warfare technology. This includes the acquisition of additional tactical drones and the reconfiguration of Army aviation assets for combat roles. These advancements are reported to improve intelligence gathering, precision targeting, operational mobility, and casualty evacuation across various operational theatres.

The Army Chief also pointed to ongoing enhancements in recruitment efforts, advanced training, professional military education, and leadership development. He underscored the importance of discipline, competency, and meritocracy in building a robust military institution.

Reaffirming his “soldier-first” philosophy, Shaibu stated that troop welfare remains a non-negotiable priority. He emphasized that motivated soldiers operating in supportive environments are essential to mission success.

Shaibu called on senior officers to ensure that the resolutions from the conference are effectively implemented in field operations, stressing that the true measure of the conference’s success will be reflected in tangible improvements on the battlefield.

“We are not just reforming the Army; we are building a lethal, technology-driven fighting force where discipline, merit, and mission success are paramount,” he said.

The Chief of Army Staff expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support, as well as to the Minister of Defence, Minister of State for Defence, Chief of Defence Staff, service chiefs, and intelligence agencies for their collaboration.

The conference concluded with the presentation of commendation plaques to senior officers recognized for their outstanding contributions to operational effectiveness.
