Bauchi Police Arrest Nigerien National in Ram Theft

Bauchi, Nigeria — The Bauchi State Police Command has apprehended a 58-year-old man from Niger, identified as Sayyadi Abubakar, in connection with the alleged theft of rams within the Bauchi metropolis.

Abubakar, a resident of Tahoua Town in Maradi State, Niger Republic, was arrested on May 19, 2026, following a police operation that intercepted two vehicles on Gubi Road. The vehicles—a white Hummer bus with registration number Delta WW-882 ZR and a dark ash Toyota Camry, registered as Bauchi NNG-293-AA—are believed to have been used in the transportation of the stolen animals.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Abubakar conspired with an accomplice, identified as Alaji Ibrahim, along with four other individuals who remain at large, to steal the rams from a location opposite A.A. Kunya Filling Station along Murtala Mohammed Way.

Authorities report that the criminal group allegedly alters vehicle registration plates during their operations across various locations to avoid detection.

The police have stated that efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining suspects. The case is still under investigation, and all individuals involved are expected to face prosecution once inquiries are completed.

Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu emphasized the command’s dedication to combating criminal activity statewide. He encouraged residents to assist security agencies by providing timely and credible information to support ongoing crime-fighting efforts.
