NOUN bursar, Nasiru Marafa shot dead in Zamfara


The Bursar of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Nasiru Gusau Marafa, was shot and killed in Zamfara State, officials confirmed on Sunday.

Oladipo Ajayi, the university’s Registrar and Secretary to the Governing Council, released a statement regarding Marafa’s death, which occurred as he was returning from Gusau, the state capital.

“The Vice-Chancellor, on behalf of the Governing Council, Management, Senate, Staff, and Students of the National Open University of Nigeria, NOUN, regrets to announce the sudden and untimely passing of the University Bursar, Mallam Nasiru Gusau Marafa,” the statement read.

Marafa had been appointed as the Bursar on September 17, 2022, serving a five-year term set to conclude in September 2027.

Ajayi characterized Marafa as a devoted administrator who had served the university with distinction and held multiple positions of responsibility throughout his career. He extended condolences to Marafa’s family, friends, and the university community.

The university announced that details regarding Marafa’s burial arrangements would be provided once they have been finalized by the family.
