OPEP Arrests Suspects Linked to NIPSS Attack in Plateau State
KURU, Plateau State — Troops from Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) have arrested two individuals believed to be involved in the recent attack on the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru, located within the Jos South Local Government Area.
According to a statement from OPEP spokesperson Captain Polycarp Oteh, the suspects were taken into custody around 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 4. The arrests occurred during an intelligence-driven operation at the Trade Center area of Kuru.
Oteh reported that the first suspect, identified only as Aboi, provided information leading to the capture of the second individual following intense questioning. Both suspects are currently detained and are undergoing further interrogation to assist security forces in apprehending additional members of the criminal network.
The statement emphasized, “The suspects are being exploited for further intelligence that could lead to the arrest of other members of the group involved in the attack.”
These arrests come in the wake of a series of assaults on the NIPSS facility, which have resulted in the deaths of four individuals, including security personnel. The most recent attack occurred on July 2, when soldiers successfully repelled the assailants, killing one and causing others to flee with gunshot wounds.
During the operation, troops also recovered a service rifle, registered as CO-3175. Investigations revealed that this weapon had been stolen from a soldier killed in a prior attack on the Federal College of Land Resources Technology in Vom, which took place on April 11, 2026.
