OSOGBO, Nigeria — The Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Information and Communication Technology, DIG Fayoade Mustapha Adegoke, reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to maintaining peace and fostering public confidence during his recent visit to the Osun State Police Command.

Adegoke’s tour on Thursday included a meeting with officers, stakeholders, and media representatives. He relayed the goodwill of Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu and commended the command for its efforts in sustaining a relatively peaceful environment in the state.

Describing the visit as significant both officially and personally, Adegoke emphasized his connection to Osun State and underscored that the safety of residents is a primary focus of his role.

Acknowledging recent security concerns, particularly cult-related incidents amid the ongoing election season, Adegoke expressed confidence in the command’s proactive measures to combat criminal activities.

He noted the command’s successes, including the recovery of arms and ammunition, which have contributed to enhanced public safety.

Adegoke praised the Commissioner of Police in Osun State, Ibrahim Gotan, for his leadership and operational achievements, commending officers for their professionalism and dedication.

Reiterating the Nigeria Police Force’s stance during democratic processes, he stated, “Our allegiance is to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and not to any political interest.” He urged officers to remain impartial and disciplined in their duties.

In addition, Adegoke expressed gratitude for the support from the Osun State Government, particularly through the local government association, which has provided operational vehicles and other resources to bolster policing efforts.

He acknowledged the contributions of the National Association of Retired Police Officers of Nigeria, the Police Community Relations Committee, and other stakeholders, highlighting their roles in promoting community policing and strengthening public trust.

Adegoke also called on traditional rulers, community leaders, youth organizations, and civil society groups to continue collaborating with security agencies by providing timely and credible information.

During his visit, the DIG paid a courtesy call on the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji Olanipekun, to thank traditional rulers for their cooperation with security forces.

He confirmed that additional police personnel have been deployed to Osun State to address ongoing security challenges and extended condolences to families affected by recent incidents. Adegoke assured residents that political activities would not disrupt the prevailing peace in the state.
