Police arrest four suspects over gun-running in Delta

Four Arrested in Gun-Running Investigation in Delta State
Asaba, Nigeria — The Delta State Police Command has apprehended four individuals suspected of involvement in a gun-running syndicate linked to the recovery of an illegal Beretta pistol in Effurun, located in the Uvwie local government area.
During a press briefing held in Asaba, Delta State Commissioner of Police Yemi Oyeniyi detailed that the arrests were made following intelligence-led operations conducted in Bayelsa and Imo states. This investigation was initiated after the pistol was recovered at a transport park in Effurun on May 1, 2026.
Oyeniyi identified the first suspect as Emmanuel Chukwuemeka, who was detained in Bayelsa State on May 4. He was arrested alongside his roommate, whose phone was allegedly used to facilitate the firearm transaction. According to police findings, Chukwuemeka reportedly purchased the Beretta pistol from Amadi Princewill for 290,000 naira before attempting to resell it to a suspect identified only as Desmond, who remains at large, for 380,000 naira.
“Desmond allegedly coordinated the transport of the weapon to Effurun and had contacted the now-deceased Oghenemine Ogidi to retrieve it for delivery to Sapele,” Oyeniyi said.
Following intelligence obtained during the interrogation of Chukwuemeka, law enforcement tracked and arrested Princewill in Imo State on May 15. Subsequently, investigations led to the arrest of another suspect, Amadi Felix Chibuike, in Owerri on May 16. Police reported that Princewill confessed to obtaining the firearm from Chibuike.
Oyeniyi confirmed that a fourth suspect, identified as Clifford Boleyelefa, was also taken into custody as part of the ongoing investigation.
