Suspected herdsmen kill several in fresh attack on Benue communities
Suspected armed herdsmen killed several individuals during an attack on communities in Mbaterem, located in the Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State, early Sunday morning.
The assailants, reportedly on motorcycles, invaded the villages of Ayaba, Ukpen, Bom, Aboajio, and Yina around 5 a.m., firing indiscriminately and prompting residents to flee into nearby bushes for safety.
Emmanuel Oryiman Mbatsavdue, a local resident, reported that at least four fatalities had been confirmed in Aboajio, with families continuing to search for missing members. He expressed concern that the death toll could increase as the search progresses.

Ukum LGA Executive Chairman Hon. Jonathan Modi confirmed the attack but noted that the precise number of casualties had not yet been determined. He stated that security personnel were still assessing the situation in the bush.
The Benue State Police Command’s spokesman, DSP Orchia Aondogwu, also confirmed the occurrence of the attack in Ukum. He added that further details would be provided as they become available.
