Tight security at Lagos APC secretariat ahead governorship primary

Heavy Security Surrounds APC Secretariat Ahead of Governorship Primaries
OGBA, IKEJA — A significant security presence was noted around the All Progressives Congress (APC) secretariat on Thursday morning as preparations commenced for the party’s governorship primary election.
Officers from the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), among other agencies, were deployed to ensure order and monitor activities at the location.
Patrol vehicles with armed personnel were strategically positioned both inside and outside the premises as electoral materials and officials prepared to depart for various locations around the state. Vehicles transporting ballot papers, result sheets, and electoral officers were seen leaving the APC secretariat, signaling the imminent start of the election process.
Party officials and electoral personnel began arriving at the secretariat as early as 6 a.m. to sort and distribute both sensitive and non-sensitive election materials.
Sesan Daini, Chairman of the Media and Publicity Committee of the APC Primaries Local Organising Committee, addressed journalists, stating that the party had enhanced its logistical arrangements to prevent delays during the election.
“We have learned a lot in the course of these primaries,” Daini said. “That is why we deployed early today to avoid delays at the various centres.”
He emphasized the party’s determination to ensure a smooth and timely conduct of the primary election across Lagos State. “We want our election officers to go and return early. We want to ensure the winner emerges today and is declared today,” he added.
Daini expressed confidence in the peaceful nature of the primary, noting that the party had agreed on a consensus candidate ahead of the exercise. “We expect a peaceful exercise because the party has gotten a consensus candidate. We believe members will conduct themselves responsibly,” he remarked.
He also pointed out that some electoral officers had already arrived at their assigned centers in preparation for voting.
