VeryDarkMan blasts igbo traders over ‘Chinese must go’ protest
A social media activist known as VeryDarkMan has criticized a group of Igbo traders in Lagos State for their recent protests against Chinese merchants. The protesters are demanding the removal of Chinese traders from local markets, citing the lower prices offered by the foreigners as a threat to their businesses.
In his response to the protests, VeryDarkMan urged Nigerian traders to concentrate on enhancing local production and manufacturing, rather than attempting to force foreign competitors out of the market. He emphasized that traders risk falling behind by not adapting to the evolving global business landscape.
“What these traders fail to understand is that the world has advanced, but they have not kept pace,” VeryDarkMan remarked. He raised concerns about the implications of a potential reduction in travel opportunities to China for Nigerian traders, suggesting that an increase in restrictions could worsen their situation.
“You’re asking for China to leave the market, but what would happen if China decides to stop issuing visas for Nigerians to travel there and meet manufacturers?” he queried.
He warned that Nigeria’s heavy reliance on imported goods could leave local traders at a disadvantage when competing against foreign businesses. “Your market won’t sustain itself, as Nigeria has not prioritized local production,” he stated, projecting that the country will continue to rely on imports for the foreseeable future.
