Why I declined invite to attend Opposition Summit in Ibadan – Sowore

Sowore Explains Absence from Opposition Summit in Ibadan
Omoyele Sowore, the 2023 presidential candidate for the African Action Congress (AAC), has clarified his absence from the national summit of opposition parties held Saturday in Ibadan, Oyo State.
In a statement posted on his official Facebook page, Sowore emphasized the need for genuine alternatives to the current government, criticizing what he termed “recycled failures” in politics.
The summit in Ibadan drew a range of opposition leaders, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former governors Peter Obi (Anambra), Rabiu Kwankwaso (Kano), and Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers). Other notable attendees included former President Olusegun Obasanjo and former Senate President David Mark.
While the summit aimed to foster unity and strategize for the upcoming 2027 general elections, Sowore was noticeably absent. He referred to the politicians present at the gathering as individuals who have contributed to Nigeria’s stagnation and corruption over the years.
Sowore stated that the AAC would not participate in what he described as a “charade” intended to reintroduce failed political figures under the guise of opposition. He reaffirmed his party’s commitment to fostering integrity, accountability, and transformative leadership.
“We will mobilize Nigerians to support a credible vision that rejects the decay represented by the current administration and its counterparts in other parties,” Sowore added. He concluded by stressing that Nigeria requires a fundamental break from its past political failures rather than mere rearrangement of existing leadership.
