Windstorm kills food vendor in Benue State

Obi Local Government Area, Benue State – A violent windstorm accompanied by heavy rainfall struck several communities on Wednesday, resulting in the death of a woman and significant damage to property.
The victim, a well-known food vendor in Obarike along the Ogore axis, was killed when a large tree fell on her during the storm. The woman’s identity has not yet been disclosed.
Residents reported that she died instantly, prompting an outpouring of grief from family, friends, and neighbors who gathered in disbelief at the scene of the tragedy.
The storm caused extensive damage, impacting numerous homes, shops, and business establishments. Fallen trees blocked the Secretariat Road near the Ijanke community, leading to traffic disruptions and increased concern among locals.
Hon. Silas Odeh Ahunye, chairman of Obi Local Government Area, characterized the event as one of the worst disasters to affect the region in recent years. He noted that his own residence suffered damage during the storm.
