Nigerian Govt inaugurates southern traditional rulers committee on primary health care

Nigerian Government Establishes Primary Health Care Committee
The Nigerian government has officially inaugurated the Southern Tradition Rulers Council Primary Health Care Committee, aimed at enhancing the acceptance of immunization within communities.
At the inauguration ceremony, Health Minister Muhammad Ali Pate emphasized the committee’s importance in improving primary health care outreach across Nigeria.
Dr. Muyi Aina, Director General of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), stated that the formation of this committee marks a crucial step toward fostering trust between governmental health initiatives and local communities. “This event signifies an important advancement in our efforts to build trust within the health systems,” he said. He also highlighted the collaboration on the polio eradication program, noting that Nigeria aims to eliminate the circulating variant of the poliovirus by the end of 2027.
The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, conveyed the commitment of southern traditional leaders to support the federal government in delivering basic healthcare services. “As representatives of Southern Nigeria, we assure you of our full support,” he stated.
The committee will be chaired by Oba Ogunwusi, and includes leaders from the traditional rulers’ councils across Edo, Anambra, Delta, Abia, and other southern states.
Dr. Mahmud Zubaira, Head of Mission at the Centre for Well-being and Integrated Nutrition Solutions (C-WINS), also expressed confidence that stakeholders will actively support efforts to advance primary health services in Nigeria.
