‘I’d rather join bandits than sell akara, kulikuli’ – Singer Mr Real

Afrobeats Singer Critiques First Lady’s Economic Advice

Afrobeats artist Mr. Real has expressed his disapproval of comments made by First Lady Oluremi Tinubu regarding economic opportunities for Nigerians during the nation’s current financial difficulties.

In recent statements, Mrs. Tinubu advised Nigerians to consider entering the informal economy through small trades, such as selling local snacks like akara, kulikuli, and roasted corn, suggesting that these ventures are affordable to start. Her remarks have drawn a mix of responses from the public.

In his reaction, Mr. Real criticized the First Lady’s advice as out of touch with the realities many Nigerians face. He provocatively stated that he would prefer to engage in banditry than pursue the petty trades she mentioned.

On his Instagram account, the singer remarked, “I’d rather join banditry than sell kulikuli and akara. My target would be only politicians. At least if I am caught, they will rehabilitate me.”

His comments highlight the frustrations and challenges faced by many in a country grappling with significant economic hardship.
