Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, widely known as Tems, addressed her dating preferences during an interview at the BET Awards this past weekend.
When asked if she would consider pursuing a relationship with Maduka Okoye, the prominent Super Eagles goalkeeper, Tems stated that their shared Nigerian nationality influenced her view. She expressed that she does not perceive fellow celebrities in a romantic light.
“I know who Maduka Okoye is but I don’t know him personally. I wish I did though. But shooting shots at him, we don’t do that over here,” Tems said.
The artist, known for her hit song “Love Me Jeje,” emphasized her perspective on relationships within the Nigerian entertainment industry. “We [Nigerian celebrities] are friends and we are family. I see my male colleagues as brothers.”
Tems’ remarks reflect a cultural ethos among Nigerian celebrities, where camaraderie often takes precedence over romantic pursuits.
